Orientation for this site

I highly recommend you have a look at our sister site, TJEdOnline. There are many free resources there, like Oliver's Update and Rachel's "Mine", which are listings of our new essays, The Phases Resource Library and Kidschool helps, etc. Also, free pdf downloads from the TJEd books are available there. And for those who want them, there are premium services available for a low monthly subscription.

I am so happy to be on the Leadership Education path with you. We all benefit from each other's growth and insight. Your contribution here and in your community truly do make a difference. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can help in any way. I look forward to getting to know you, and thank you in advance for enriching this experience for all of us here.

Warmly, Rachel DeMille

"That which we obtain too cheaply we esteem too lightly." -Thomas Paine

I wonder if your experience as a parent is like mine on that point. A broken kitchen appliance, a carelessly used vehicle, another lost jacket....

Sometimes our youth are guilty of esteeming lightly or neglecting to care for what they didn’t have to pay for themselves. I cringe when careless words or actions by one of my children are hurtful to another of them. Don’t they know how much I’ve sacrificed to try to give that little one a sense of love and security? I’ve seen many families go to ext… Continue

The Power of One

The Power of One

In his book The Closing of the American Mind, Allan Bloom discuses the social, political, moral, and intellectual crises in America. It is an accurate and complete look at what our culture has become and is utterly depressing. But one doesn’t have to read Bloom’s book to witness the dramatic decline in the nation today. The news is full of alarming statistics about divorce, teen pregnancy, violence, high school drop-outs, incarcerations, out-of-control spending, educational dec… Continue

Inoculation against Indoctrination

Inoculation against Indoctrination

The recent wave of parental concern over President Obama’s address to school children says more about the current educational crisis in this nation than it does about the toxic political atmosphere. Anxiety mounted over the possibility that the president would indoctrinate the susceptible, impressionable minds of the nation’s youth with some “evil” political agenda.

This alarm turned out to be unnecessary as the president gave an innocuous, if not inspiring,… Continue

TJEd in 2010

I am so thrilled with the advent of the new year. Beginnings always seem to give me fresh energy and refined focus. And I am very often inspired and giving important ideas by hearing about the things that inspire others. So I have a few questions for you:

What are you doing differently, better, more, less... for the new year?
Have you started a new book for family reading?
What are you doing… Continue

Goals

Welcome to the new year everyone! I dunno about you, but I never pictured that I would actually be in the year 2010. It always seemed so far away, but here we are.
At the beginning of every year, people usually reevaluate - they look at what they said (last year) about wanting to become (this year), and note how far they've come and their shortcomings as well. They set resolutions so they can continue to improve or just improve period. They think about what they want to become this year and reso… Continue
